The meeting will start at 1.15pm and the topic is Members’ displays of Perak. All States offer a range of interests and display options; for Perak this is from early overprints, through the FMS years, the pre and post independence issues.
Our Next meeting is at Spinks, Saturday 6th December. Christmas Buffet (start 12 Noon) plus members’ displays themed “A” to “D” (start 1.30pm). I have a few ideas but looking forward to seeing your interpretations
Following from our VJ Exhibition at the Royal Philatelic Society London (still open until end of September) our next meeting is at Spinks Saturday 20th September with members’ displays on Forces Mail starting around 1.15pm
Forces Mail is a wide topic ranging from nineteen tens to the nineteen sixties that includes WW1, WW2, Malayan Emergency and Confrontasi or Confrontation
We have as well as philatelic items several displays of Far Eastern PoWs art, so please come and bring along a suitable display
It is likely to be a fantastic mixture of philately and historical information, the like of which I suspect we will not see again on the Forgotten War!!
Well I have just had sneak preview of the VJ of the exhibition at the Royal Philatelic Society London.
It is fantastic and thank you all the contributors and particualrly Roger Johnson and Malcolm Gascoyne for putting it together.
A fantastic mixture of philately and historical information, the like of which I suspect we will not see again on the Forgotten War!!
For those who will not be able to make it to the RPSL – don’t worry plans are already being made to be able to broadcast it electronically but there are a few challenges. Also the material is so large that you probably would have to run it over several episodes on Zoom.
In a week’s time on 15th August is the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day
The Malaya Study Group together with the Borneo Philatelic Society have collaborated together to provide a Standing Display of scans of material relevant to the war in the Far East, VJ Day itself and the liberation of Malaya, Borneo and Sarawak
The Display opens on the 15th August at the Royal Philatelic Society, 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW
The exhibition will be open on most working days (Monday to Friday) between 10am to 4pm until the end of September
Everyone, members and non-members, are welcome to come to the exhibition. It may be necessary to occasionally take down the display if the frames are needed for member meetings at the Royal. Please contact the Royal on 020 7486 1044 or administrator@rpsl.org.uk to check if you are making a special journey
Ong Kuee Hong of Johor Bahru is taking over as the Malaysian Reprsentative from Dr Gong Ngie Hee
Dr Gong is finalising the handover of information to Kuee Hong and this should be completed shortly. The Committee and no doubt the rest of the Group would like to thank Dr. Gong for all his diligent and hard work over the years; Dr Gong enjoy many more years of philately
Our next meeting is at Spinks this Saturday 21st June with members’ displays Kelantin starting around 1.15pm. Please come along and if you have some Kelantin material, all the better and bring it along
Our Next meeting is in Leicester at The Oadby Room, The Hilton Leicester Hotel (Fosse Park), 21 Junction Approach. This is easily accessible from the M1 Junction 21
The meeting will start at 10am where attendees bring their own displays; tea and coffee will be provided and lunch is at a local pub
EUROPHILEX – THURSDAY 8th MAY
Anyone attending Europhilex Tomorrow are welcome to attend the Borneo Philatelic Society’s Meeting between 11am to 1pm. You will be welcome to show short displays (1-2 frames) on East Malaysia/British Borneo
